MATRYOSHKA DOLLS

This work explores the layers of an individual’s psyche, which I convey through the iconic Matryoshka doll. The glass Matryoshka dolls I make are similar to the dolls familiar to most people. There are few to several dolls in each set and they fit inside one another. Unlike the traditional dolls, the work I create includes only the necessary details to suggest the form. Although these pieces are beautiful to look at, my intention is to provoke a conversation: What are our layers? How and to whom do we reveal them, and why?

BIRDS

I was inspired to create this body of work after learning of our brain's ability to fill in the blanks and understand what is being presented even when little information is provided. This series explores that concept by utilizing only the necessary details to suggest a form. I chose the bird and a branch because it is easily recognizable and appealing across demographics. And truthfully, these sculptures were made to be something beautiful and playful for people to enjoy.
